Never Be Away From the Ice
8/10 times I don’t have time to watch a game. With the NHL pause going on right now, I realized I had been keeping connected through multiple digital platforms and wasn’t missing out at all. We all get busy and having things on your phone sometimes makes life a little bit easier. In the case you’re not able to watch a game or don’t have tickets, I compiled a list of different ways I check in with my team and the League. Never miss out and never have an off season.
One | Podcasts
I love listening to podcasts. Wish it hadn’t taken me this long to start listening to hockey based content. Lately, I’ve been missing the game more than usual. My week now looks completely different. It doesn’t matter if I’m in the office or working out, I go through a Blackhawks Talk episode almost daily. Once you decide what you want out of the podcast, you won’t have a problem finding one. There are endless options to choose from. I wanted someone that had different opinions on subjects to create a more interesting conversation, updated me on my team, and also provided overall League insight. The episodes vary in length making it perfect for my next commute or workout. The podcasts can be found anywhere podcasts are available.
Two | Twitter
This social media platform is everything you need for the League. I follow the NHL account for news, interesting pieces, and general information on all the conferences. The Blackhawks Twitter is where I like to be when games are running. They tweet play by play and include quotes from players, important moments like goals or fights, and images giving me an easy and efficient way to be caught up.
Three | Apps
The NHL and NBC Sports Chicago apps are go-to’s on my phone. The NHL app has everything. E V E R Y T H I N G. Latest, scores, standing, stats, rosters, and more. The app always has new content and updates me on anything as it’s released. I can set preferences, customizing features, and put on specific notifications including shootouts or final score. With the NBC Sports Chicago app, all I had to do was plug in my Hulu and now I have access to the NBC Sports team, moments from games, and any hockey content I want NCAA to pro.
Four | YouTube
You-Tube is great for replays. I’ve re-watched playoff goals and minutes before Cup wins. This is the platform I go to when I am looking for a particular clip. Or just want to watch a good fight. Almost all NHL teams have an account where they will upload different entertaining videos and interviews. Only place you can watch exactly what you want in a matter of minutes.
Five | IGTV
Instagram has quick captions and images, IGTV has more. This is becoming a big proponent for both college and pro teams as their accounts acquire a bigger prescence on social media. The teams are using this new business feature to their advantage. They post longer game moments or use it for entertaining content with players. You can watch directly on Instagram or download the IGTV app.
